World AIDS Day

From Health Song:

World AIDS Day is Monday, December 1. AOL's Health Community will begin its observance at 12 Midnight ET in Health III, and it will end the following night at 3 am ET (12 Midnight on the West Coast). I'm pleased to tell you that, once again, our chat room will be hosted for the entire 27 hours, thanks to fellow volunteer leaders in AOL's Health Community. You may not recognize some of them, but I'm sure you'll make them feel welcome in our little corner of cyberspace.

I won't ramble about what World AIDS Day means to me, because what it means to you is far more important. Past gatherings have taken on various characteristics of a family reunion, where we catch up on each other's lives, wonder (and perhaps share clues) about those who are missing, and, of course, remember those we have lost. And like our regularly scheduled HIV/AIDS chats, we will share information and support.

Rumor has it that this might be the last year for our cherished chat room before all chats transition to the web-based rooms. So this might be your last chance to look around and take a mental picture. Please spread the word, and I hope we see each other on Monday!

Chats this Saturday and next Tuesday

I still plan on hosting these two chats. On Saturday, I plan to host the chat from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. central standard time because I have a conflict at the usual time.

On Tuesday, I plan on hosting the PTSD support chat from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. central standard time because of another conflict. The chat will be in the same room as usual.

Election campaign and finance

As usual, I was totally disgusted by all the attack ads this time around. What I find even more apalling this time around is the sheer amount of money that was spent.

There has got to be a better way to have elections. I would start by banning ads on television and radio myself, but I'm not sure that is legal or even possible.

Child safety - automobiles.

It is vital to keep any child riding in a car in the right size and kind of carseat or restraint system until he or she is tall enough to safely and comfortably wear a seatbelt without a carseat or restraint system. My daughter would not have survived back in 2000 if I had not been doing that. Please please please keep this in mind when transporting children in cars.
